Olympians
Garrett Lowney is the only wrestler from Freedom to go onto the Olympic level. After graduating at Freedom in 1998, Garrett attended the University of Minnesota. He immediately knew he wanted to train for the 2000 Olympics. After taking 2nd in the U.S. National tournament in April of 2000, Garrett was determined to make the Olympic team. In June of 2000 at the Olympic Trials in Dallas, Texas, Garrett won a most out of three series to make the U.S. Olympic Team. At age 20, Garrett would go on to earn a Bronze medal and become the youngest American ever to medal in the Olympics for wrestling. Garrett would also wrestle in the 2004 Olympics but did not earn a medal.
